Clinical & Laboratory Haematologist

Dr Laura Maddy

MBBS, BBiolSc, FRACP, FRCPA

Dr Laura Maddy is a Melbourne clinical and laboratory haematologist with broad experience across general haematology, including malignant and non-malignant blood disorders, in both metropolitan and regional settings.

She completed her medical degree at Deakin University in 2011 after first completing a Bachelor of Biological Science, and undertook specialist haematology training across Barwon Health, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, Austin Health and Northern Health.

Before studying medicine, Dr Maddy worked as a laboratory technician and medical scientist, giving her an early foundation in laboratory medicine that complements her later clinical and laboratory haematology training. She was awarded dual fellowships of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2020.

From 2020 to 2023, Dr Maddy worked as a Consultant Haematologist at Goulburn Valley Hospital, where she helped establish an onsite haematology service, outpatient bone marrow biopsies in Day Oncology and the health service’s first telehealth haematology trial. She has since continued consultant practice across Northern Health and private haematology services in Melbourne and Geelong, including Northern Blood & Cancer Care at Northern Private Hospital.

Dr Maddy enjoys the breadth of haematology and brings a practical, patient-centred approach to investigation and treatment. Medical education is also an important part of her work, with teaching experience spanning medical students, interns, hospital medical officers and basic physician trainees.
